Sagard, Quebec
Sagard is an unorganized territory and a small hamlet in Quebec, Canada. It’s in the Capitale-Nationale region, within the Charlevoix-Est Regional County Municipality, and sits along Route 170 on the eastern bank of the Little Saguenay River, between Saint-Siméon and Petit-Saguenay.
The landscape is hilly with many small lakes, and elevations range from about 274 meters to 640 meters.
Sagard covers about 213 square kilometers in total (about 205 square kilometers of land). In 2021, 110 people lived there, giving a very low population density of roughly 0.5 people per square kilometer. There are 91 dwellings in total, with 54 occupied by usual residents.
The territory was named after the Sagard geographic township, proclaimed in 1919, in honor of Théodat Sagard, a Recollect missionary known for his writings on New France and the Hurons. The Desmarais family owns a large estate in Sagard.
