Instituto Tecnológico de Ciudad Madero
Instituto Tecnológico de Ciudad Madero (ITCM) is a public technical university in Ciudad Madero, Tamaulipas, Mexico. It is part of SEP and serves the needs of the local industry.
The institute was founded in 1950; its cornerstone was laid on November 20 by Antonio J. Bermúdez, and classes began in 1954 with 511 students. The first director was Luis Hidalgo y Castro, and in 1956 undergraduate programs started in Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering.
Over the years ITCM expanded into many areas and began graduate studies in 1976. Today it offers undergraduate degrees (about 8,000 students) and graduate programs, including three master’s degrees and two PhDs, with partnerships with the Mexican Petroleum Institute (IMP) and Japan’s JICA. Since January 2011 the director has been Arnulfo Hernández Héctor Enríquez.
