Hosackia is a group of flowering plants in the legume family. They are native to western North America, from British Columbia to Mexico. They belong to the tribe Loteae within the subfamily Faboideae. The classification of this group has been complex, and many species have moved between genera over time. In the past, many Hosackia species were placed in the broader Lotus genus. A 2000 genetic study showed that the New World (American) species are not the same as the Old World (African and Eurasian) Lotus species, which helped clarify their relationships. When defined narrowly, Hosackia forms a single natural group. Some New World species that were once in Hosackia have been moved to Acmispon, Ottleya, and Syrmatium. As of 2023, Plants of the World Online recognizes several species within Hosackia.
