Ichi the Witch
Ichi the Witch is a fantasy manga written by Osamu Nishi and drawn by Shiro Usazaki. It started in Shueisha’s Weekly Shōnen Jump on September 9, 2024. The story takes place in a world with magical monsters called Majiks. Witches are hunters who gain magic from Majiks after a trial, and it is believed only girls can become witches. A boy named Ichi, who lives on Druid Mountain, defeats a Majik and becomes the first male witch.
The manga is published in English at the same time as the Japanese by Viz Media and Manga Plus. The first collected volume (tankōbon) was released on January 4, 2025, and six volumes had been released by December 2025.
Critics have praised the series. Nick Valdez of ComicBook.com called the first chapter strong and suggested it could be the next big thing. Joshua Fox of Screen Rant praised the world-building, artwork, and the main character. Well-known creators Kōhei Horikoshi and Katsura Hoshino have recommended the series.
Ichi the Witch has received several awards and recognitions. It won the 11th Next Manga Award in the print category in 2025, ranked 11th in Da Vinci magazine’s 2025 Book of the Year, and placed fourth in the 2026 edition of Takarajimasha’s Kono Manga ga Sugoi! guide for best manga for male readers. It was also nominated for the 19th Manga Taishō in 2026.
