The Tintookies
The Tintookies is a 1956 Australian puppet musical comedy created for marionettes by Peter Scriven. It was written by Hal Saunders, based on a story by Scriven, with music by Kurt Herweg and lyrics by Hal Saunders. It premiered on June 12, 1956 in Newtown, Sydney, and was performed in English. The show, which explores Aboriginal culture, was produced by the Elizabethan Theatre Trust. It toured Australia, became very popular, and helped establish Scriven’s company. The Tintookies led to a sequel, Little Fella Bindi, and was revived in 1965. The story is about the Tintookies, small people who live in the sandhills.
