Iñaki Berruet
Iñaki Berruet, born José Ignacio Berruet Michelena on 23 April 1973 in Irun, is a retired Spanish footballer who played as a centre back. He began in Real Unión’s youth teams and played for Behovia and Real Unión B before joining Real Unión’s first team in 1990. With Real Unión he helped win Tercera División titles in 1991–92 and 1992–93, earning promotion to Segunda División B.
In 1996 he moved to Deportivo Alavés, where he helped them win the Segunda División title in 1997–98 and reach La Liga, making his top‑flight debut on 20 September 1998 against Real Zaragoza. After 36 appearances in the following season and a half, he joined Villarreal in January 2000 and helped them gain promotion to La Liga, adding 45 La Liga appearances over two and a half seasons.
He joined Córdoba in February 2003 in the Segunda División; after Córdoba were relegated in 2004–05, he moved to Lorca Deportiva for one season, then returned to Real Unión for three seasons, helping them win their Segunda División B group and gain promotion in his final season. He retired in 2009 at age 36.
Internationally, Berruet earned one cap for the Basque Country in 1998 in a 5–1 win over Uruguay; he was never called up to the Spain national team.
