"I Happen to Like New York" is a song written by Cole Porter for the 1930 musical The New Yorkers, first sung by Oscar Ragland. It’s become a standard of the Great American Songbook and has been recorded by many artists. Notable versions include Dorothy Carless ending her 1956 album Mixed Emotions with the song, Judy Garland on her 1962 album The Garland Touch, and Caterina Valente as the title track of her 1964 album. Bobby Short’s 1973 live version from Live at the Café Carlyle was used in the 1993 film Manhattan Murder Mystery. The song opens Liza Minnelli’s 1987 live album At Carnegie Hall. In September 2024, actress Jean Smart performed a modified version with new lyrics on Saturday Night Live’s 50th-season premiere.
