Huntland, Tennessee
Huntland is a small town in Franklin County, Tennessee, in the Appalachian foothills of Middle Tennessee. It has about 886 residents (2020) and covers 1.53 square miles of land. The town sits mainly at the intersection of State Route 122 and State Route 97, with SR 122 continuing to Elora and SR 97 heading south into Alabama. It’s about 12 miles south of Winchester, 22 miles east of Fayetteville, 35 miles north of Huntsville, Alabama, and 100 miles south of Nashville.
Huntland was founded in the early 1900s and was incorporated in 1907. It was named after Clinton Armstrong Hunt. The town is governed by five aldermen who meet on the third Monday of every month, and it has a planning and zoning commission and an industrial board.
Education is centered in Huntland School, a K–12 campus with around 600 students. The school complex includes elementary, middle, and high school buildings, plus a sports complex. Water for the town comes from three wells and a modern filtration plant.
In the center of town you’ll find a city park, a community center, and a fire hall. Huntland is part of the Tullahoma, Tennessee micropolitan area.
History notes: Huntland’s long school tradition began with Huntland Academy in the late 1800s. Huntland High School was established in 1912 and has expanded over the years with new classrooms, a gym, and other facilities. The Huntland Hornets football team has made many play-off appearances, and in 2023 the girls’ basketball team reached the sectional round.
