Hunter station (New York Central Railroad)
Hunter station was a train stop on the Hunter Branch of the Ulster and Delaware Railroad in the village of Hunter, Greene County, New York. It opened on June 24, 1882 and was the busiest station on the U&D branch lines. It was the last station built by the narrow-gauge Stony Clove & Catskill Mountain Railroad. The U&D absorbed that line in 1899 and the station was expanded in 1900.
In 1932 the New York Central Railroad took over the U&D, leaving Hunter as one of only two stations on the branch lines. The branch lines were abandoned in 1939, and Hunter station closed on January 22, 1940. The station agent was eliminated on February 21, 1940.
Today the station building is a private home, and the former freight house is used as a tool shed. Nearby, Standard Oil Co. and Otto Gordon Coal Co. operated, and the village of Hunter was home to several popular resorts.
