Hunter × Hunter (2011 TV series)
Hunter × Hunter (2011) is a Japanese anime based on Yoshihiro Togashi's manga. It aired from 2011 to 2014 and restarts the story from the manga’s beginning, with no connection to the 1999 series. The plot follows Gon Freecss, who discovers his father Ging is alive and is a legendary Hunter. Gon vows to become a Hunter himself and eventually find his father.
The series was produced by Nippon Television, VAP, Shueisha, and Madhouse. It was directed by Hiroshi Kōjina, with Atsushi Maekawa and Tsutomu Kamishiro as writers, Takahiro Yoshimatsu as the character designer, and Yoshihisa Hirano as the composer. It features a completely new voice cast. It premiered on October 2, 2011, and the first DVD/Blu-ray releases came out on January 25, 2012. Viz Media released it in North America with an English dub. It later aired on Adult Swim’s Toonami block from April 17, 2016 to June 23, 2019.
The opening songs alternate between "Departure!" and "Departure! -Second Version-" by Masatoshi Ono. The endings are five songs: "Just Awake" (ep 1–26), "Hunting for Your Dream" (ep 27–58), "Reason" (ep 59–75), "Nagareboshi Kirari" (ep 76–98), and "Hyōri Ittai" (ep 99–146). "Nagareboshi Kirari" is tied to Hunter × Hunter: Phantom Rouge, and "Hyōri Ittai" is tied to Hunter × Hunter: The Last Mission. The soundtrack is by Yoshihisa Hirano.
