Hugh Niblock
Hugh Niblock (September 1949 – 18 February 2022) was a Gaelic footballer from Magherafelt, Northern Ireland. He played as a forward for the Magherafelt club, later joined St Gall's in Belfast, and represented Derry at senior level.
Niblock began with Magherafelt as a youngster and helped the club win the Derry Senior Football Championship in 1975, the club’s first-ever county title. He played for Derry’s minor team in 1967, then the under-21s, before joining the Derry senior team and helping them win Ulster titles in 1970 and 1975.
Off the field, Niblock was a secondary school teacher who spent much of his career at St Patrick’s College in Belfast. He came from a sporting family: his uncle Frank Niblock played for Derry in 1947, his brother Mickey also played for Derry, and his nephew David Niblock won a Munster Championship with Cork.
Niblock died on 18 February 2022, aged 72, in Belfast.
