Trip (Jhené Aiko album)
Trip is the second studio album by American singer-songwriter Jhené Aiko, released on September 22, 2017, by ARTium and Def Jam Recordings. It follows her debut Souled Out (2014) and the collaborative Twenty88 (2016).
The album features production from Dot da Genius, Fisticuffs, No I.D., Key Wane and many others, with guest appearances by Big Sean, Swae Lee, Kurupt, Brandy, Mali Music, Aiko’s father Dr. Chill, her daughter Namiko Love, and Chris Brown.
Trip was released without prior announcement and was led by the single While We're Young (June 9, 2017). A remix of Sativa with Rae Sremmurd arrived on January 22, 2018. Conceptually, the album explores different “trips”—mental, physical, and psychedelic—using spacey, psychedelic production to mirror those experiences.
A 23-minute autobiographical film, also titled Trip, premiered a day before the album. Aiko then toured North America with Trip (The Tour) in late 2017, followed by a European leg, and later joined Lana Del Rey on the LA to the Moon Tour in January 2018.
Commercially, Trip debuted at number five on the US Billboard 200 with about 32,000 first-week units and has since been certified Gold by the RIAA. Critics gave generally positive reviews, with Pitchfork praising its cohesive mood and atmosphere, while HipHopDX offered a mixed assessment.
