1980 DFB-Pokal final
1980 DFB-Pokal final: Fortuna Düsseldorf defeated 1. FC Köln 2–1 to win the 1979–80 DFB-Pokal, the 37th edition of Germany’s knockout cup. The final was played on 4 June 1980 at the Parkstadion in Gelsenkirchen, and Düsseldorf earned their second cup title. The competition started with 128 teams in a single-elimination format, progressing through six rounds to reach the final. If a match was tied after 90 minutes, there was extra time, and if still tied, a replay could be scheduled (at the away team’s stadium) or, if needed, penalties could decide the winner. Attendance was 65,000 and the referee was Heinz Aldinger from Waiblingen.
