Agnar Johannes Barth (26 August 1871 – 4 May 1948) was a Norwegian forester and one of the country’s leading forestry experts for many years. He was born in Lillehammer, the son of Jacob Bøckmann Barth, and his brother was Carl G. Barth. He became a professor at the Norwegian College of Agriculture in 1921 and served as rector (president) there from 1928 to 1933. He also served as a reserve officer in the Norwegian Army, attaining the rank of Second Lieutenant in 1891. In 1929, during an early lecture to new students, he praised youth in general and noted, in particular, the youth who helped create Mussolini’s Italy, saying the country had risen from poverty to progress through united, purposeful effort.
