Honiton Community College is a coeducational academy for students aged 11 to 18, located in Honiton, Devon, England. It began as Honiton Secondary School in 1938 and became an academy in 2011. The school currently educates around 745 pupils and employs about 124 staff. Its motto is “Success for all.” The school colours are blue and yellow. The Department for Education URN is 136912.
Overview
Honiton Community College serves students from 11 to 18 and offers education through its main and sixth form years. In recent years, the college has invested in new facilities and refurbishment to improve the learning environment.
Reputation and external recognition
As of the 2022 Ofsted inspection, the school’s overall effectiveness was rated as “requires improvement.”
Campus and buildings
Parts of the campus date back to the late 1930s. In 1993, the school earned the nickname “hut city” due to many temporary classrooms. From 2011 to 2018, about £5 million was invested to upgrade infrastructure, introducing features such as an AV suite, a dance studio, a gym, a sports hall, and a sixth form common area, along with refurbishment of the English and old Science blocks. The Sport and PE building opened in 2017.
Student activities
In September 2010, students launched a local radio station called Radio HCC on 87.7 FM. The school also maintains an inactive YouTube channel.
