Hisar Junction railway station
Hisar Junction railway station
Hisar Junction is an important A-category station in Hisar, Haryana, operated by the North Western Railway zone of Indian Railways (Bikaner division). The station code is HSR. It has 6 platforms and 8 broad-gauge tracks, and it sits on two main lines: the Bathinda–Rewari line and the Jakhal–Hisar–Sadalpur line. The station is at ground level, electrified, and serves both express and passenger trains.
As of 2024, about 8,000 passengers use the station daily, with around 60 trains stopping there each day. The station is part of ongoing modernization plans that include international-standard redevelopment and the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor for freight traffic.
History and connections in brief: The line through Hisar began in 1873 as part of the Rajputana–Malwa Railway, later reaching Bathinda by the 1880s. The metre-gauge tracks were converted to broad gauge in 2009, and electrification progressed in the 2010s, with several nearby routes upgraded. There are ongoing projects to connect Hisar with Ludhiana, Jakhal, Bathinda, Bikaner, and Sadulpur, and to improve long-distance links. A Delhi–Hisar high-speed/rapid transit plan has been proposed under the NCR Transport Plan.
Future plans include more electrification, track doubling, and new line proposals. Regular direct trains from Hisar connect to many major Indian cities such as Delhi, Chandigarh, Amritsar, Ludhiana, Mumbai, and more.
Getting there: The station is about 2 km from the city bus stand and 6 km from Hisar Airport, near the town’s markets and universities.
