Hidabu Abote is a district (woreda) in the Oromia region of Ethiopia, inside the Kaba Shewa Zone. It borders Kuyu to the south, Wara Jarso to the west, the Jamma River to the north (which separates it from Dera), and Degem to the east. The main town is Ejere, and Mount Ileu is a notable high point.

Population and religion: In 2007, Hidabu Abote had 82,994 residents (41,215 men and 41,779 women), with 6,395 urban dwellers, making up 7.71% of the population. Ethiopian Orthodox Christianity was followed by 99.1% of the people. The 2005 estimate put the population at 89,863 (45,278 men and 44,585 women) with 3,556 urban dwellers (3.96%). The area covers 497.82 square kilometers, giving a population density of about 180.5 people per square kilometer, higher than the zone average of 143.

Ethnicity and language (1994 census): The two largest groups were Oromo (97.53%) and Amhara (2.37%); other groups made up 0.1%. Oromo was spoken as a first language by 98.09%, Amharic by 1.87%, and other languages by 0.04%. The majority (99.04%) practiced Ethiopian Orthodox Christianity.
