Heidi Abel
Heidi Abel (21 February 1929 – 23 December 1986) was a famous Swiss TV presenter. After studying at the Basel School for Applied Art, she worked as a model and as a radio host for Basel’s Radibus. In 1954 she joined Swiss television, starting as a news presenter and then hosting many educational and entertainment programs. She also led talk shows and music programs on Swiss radio. In the 1950s and 60s she was the most popular TV personality in German-speaking Switzerland and helped make television an everyday part of Swiss life. She won several awards, and a street near the Zurich headquarters of Swiss television is named after her.
