Haunted House (Scream Queens)
Haunted House is the fourth episode of the horror-comedy series Scream Queens. It aired on Fox on October 6, 2015, directed by Bradley Buecker and written by Brad Falchuk.
As Halloween nears, Zayday announces she’s running for Kappa president, which angers Chanel and prompts a plan to undermine her with a Pumpkin Patch stunt. Denise and Pete dig into memories of the Kappa past and the mysterious Red Devil, while Hester grows closer to Chad. Dean Munsch fights to keep Wallace University open amid the ongoing murder spree.
The episode weaves between present events and a 1995 flashback. In the past, Cathy drives a group of sorority sisters to bury Sophia after a brutal confrontation, and the sisters are told to disappear from the university. Mandy reveals more about the former sisters, and the bathtub baby turns out to be a girl, complicating Grace’s beliefs about the Red Devil. In the present, Mandy is stalked in a trailer as a series of ominous knocks surround her, and the Red Devil is suspected.
At Kappa House, Chanel and her crew launch their own Halloween project, while Zayday promotes her haunted house for charity. A tour of the Shady Lane area reveals a haunted house full of bodies, including Ms. Bean and others, triggering panic and excitement as people flock to the event. The episode ends with Zayday being kidnapped by the Red Devil, and a shocking reveal: the Hag of Shady Lane is Gigi.
This episode kicked off a three-part Halloween arc for Scream Queens, with guest appearances from Ariana Grande as Chanel #2 and Niecy Nash as Denise. It drew 2.97 million viewers and received mixed critical responses. Some critics praised the twists and pacing, while others felt the show was still struggling with its direction, though many noted the episode was more engaging than earlier installments.
