Harry E. Burke
Harry Eugene Burke (May 19, 1878 – March 26, 1963) was an American entomologist who specialized in wood-boring beetles and other forest pests in the western United States. He was the West Coast’s first forest entomologist and the first person to graduate with an entomology degree from Washington State University. He was born in Paradise Valley, Nevada. Burke earned a B.S. in 1902 and an M.S. in 1908 from Washington Agricultural College and School of Science (now Washington State University). He earned his Ph.D. from Stanford University in 1923. He published more than 60 articles and co-wrote the textbook Forest Insects with R. W. Doane, E. C. Van Dyke, and W. J. Chamberlin.
