Handré Pollard is a South African rugby union player who plays fly-half for the Bulls in the United Rugby Championship and for South Africa, the Springboks. He can also play inside-centre. Pollard has won the Rugby World Cup with South Africa in 2019 and 2023, making him one of a small group to win it twice. In 2019 he started at fly-half in the final and helped with the kicking to lift the trophy. In 2023 he scored all of South Africa’s points in the final to beat New Zealand.

Pollard’s career has taken him around the world. He came up through Western Province’s youth ranks and moved to the Blue Bulls in 2013. He played varsity rugby for UP Tuks and made his mark in the Currie Cup and Super Rugby with the Bulls. He spent time with NTT DoCoMo Red Hurricanes Osaka in Japan, then moved to Montpellier in France, and later Leicester Tigers in England before returning to the Bulls in 2025.

Internationally, Pollard played for South Africa Schools and the South Africa Under-20 team, helping them win the 2012 Junior World Championship. He made his Springbok debut in 2014 and has since become one of South Africa’s top point-scorers, amassing many caps and points. By mid-2025, he had over 85 caps and more than 800 points for the Springboks.

Off the field, Pollard is married to Marise, and they have a son and a daughter.
