HSD17B14, also known as 17β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type 14, is an enzyme encoded by the HSD17B14 gene in humans. It belongs to the oxidoreductase family and helps regulate sex hormones by catalyzing the stereo-specific oxidation and reduction of the 17β carbon on androgens and estrogens, using NADP(H) as a cofactor. The enzyme is mainly expressed in glandular epithelial tissues of the breast, ovary, and testis, with additional expression in tissues such as the adrenal cortex and liver. In humans, the gene is located on chromosome 19q13.33; the mouse version is on chromosome 7. Common aliases include DHRS10 and SDR47C1, and the protein is referenced in UniProt as Q9BPX1. HSD17B14 plays a role in steroid metabolism and helps fine-tune hormone activity in the body.
