Gtranslator, now GNOME Translation Editor, is a free, cross‑platform tool for translating software that uses the gettext system. It acts as a computer‑assisted translation (CAT) tool and PO file editor, helping you localize applications by editing .po files. It can handle all gettext PO formats and offers features such as Find/Replace, Translation Memory, multiple translator profiles, and a Messages Table that shows the strings and their translations. It also provides easy navigation and editing of translations and their comments.

Gtranslator includes a plugin system with extensions like Alternate Language, Insert Tags, OpenTran, Subversion integration, and a Source Code Viewer, allowing additional workflows. It’s written in C for the GNOME desktop and released under the GNU General Public License version 3 or later (GPLv3+). In line with GNOME naming conventions, it is now known as GNOME Translation Editor.
