Gringo Star
Gringo Star is an American indie rock band from Atlanta, Georgia. It started in 2007 when brothers Nicholas and Peter Furgiuele formed the group with Peter Delorenzo and Matt McCalvin. They have had several lineup changes and now feature Nicholas Furgiuele, Peter Furgiuele, Jonathan Bragg (JB), and Josh Longino.
They released a self-titled EP and their first album, All Y’all, in 2008 (Europe release in 2010), produced by Ben H. Allen. The band signed with Gigantic Music and put out Count Yer Lucky Stars in 2011, described by Rolling Stone as modern garage-rock with psychedelic touches. The song “Shadow” was featured on NPR, and the band appeared in the 2011 documentary Hurry Up and Wait.
Delorenzo left later, McCalvin was replaced by Christopher Kaufmann (who left in 2013). In 2013 they released Floating Out To See, self-recorded at Studio 234 in Atlanta on their own My Anxious Mouth Records. The album earned positive reviews, with Find a Love named Song of the Day by KEXP, and it reached #29 on the CMJ Top 200 and #13 on FMQB Submodern.
In 2014 they issued a 7-inch vinyl on Dizzybird Records, featuring “Long Time Gone” and “World of Spin.” Paste Magazine premiered World of Spin. In 2015 they announced a new full-length album and previewed the single “Undone.” At SXSW 2016 they signed with Nevado Music, and their album The Sides and In Between was released on August 26, 2016, with the video for “Rotten” appearing on PureVolume.
Gringo Star has been profiled in Spin and has recorded for Daytrotter and Paste Magazine. They’ve shared stages with Best Coast, the Black Lips, and J Roddy Walston and the Business, and have played at Lollapalooza and many other festivals. In 2015 they toured with The Relationship and Dreamers, headlined Candler Park Fallfest, played Harvestfest in Ocala, and opened for The Zombies. They continue to perform at SXSW and began a three-month national tour in August 2016.
