Gravity & Other Myths
Gravity & Other Myths (GOM) is a contemporary circus group from Adelaide, South Australia. It was founded in 2009 by five students from the Australian Cirkidz program: Elliot Zoerner, Jascha Boyce, Jacob Randell, Lachlan Binns, and Martin Schreiber.
The company performs at major events like the Adelaide Festival of Arts and the Adelaide Fringe, and it tours across Australia and internationally. GOM has a rotating lineup of shows and a changing repertoire.
Their style blends traditional circus skills—acrobatics, juggling, and clowning—with dance and theatre. They don’t hide the hard physical work behind the acts; instead, they oftenHighlight it for a comedic effect. Audiences sometimes sit or stand around the stage, creating an informal atmosphere between acts.
In 2019, GOM won the Helpmann Award for Best Visual or Physical Theatre Production for Out of Chaos, and they have been nominated for or won other awards as well.
In 2021, during the COVID-19 pandemic, the company ran recruitment sessions in Adelaide to add eight new performers, which generated a big response.
As of January 2025, five of the original co-founders remain with the company in various roles, with Darcy Grant serving as artistic director. The group includes many other acrobats, musicians, and technical and support staff. Geoff Cobham was formerly the lighting designer for GOM, including for Backbone in 2017.
