Gluteus medius tendonitis

Content sourced from Wikipedia, licensed under CC BY-SA 3.0.

Gluteus medius tendonitis is inflammation of the tendon that connects the gluteus medius muscle to the hip. Pain is usually on the outside of the hip and can show up with walking, stairs, or lying on the painful side.

It often happens from overuse or from weak hip muscles, and sitting for long periods can contribute to weakness.

Treatment typically includes rest, ice, and gradually adding safe exercises to strengthen the hip. A physical therapist can guide hip-strengthening exercises and help improve movement patterns. Medications like NSAIDs can help with pain if appropriate. Most people improve with proper rehab; some may need injections or other treatments if symptoms continue.
