Jimmy “Superfly” Snuka was a Fijian-American professional wrestler born on May 18, 1943. He became famous in the 1980s with the World Wrestling Federation (WWF, now WWE) for his exciting, high-flying style and his signature Superfly Splash. Snuka is remembered as an influential star who helped popularize aerial wrestling.

He competed in many wrestling promotions from the 1970s through the 2010s. He was the first ECW World Heavyweight Champion, winning the title twice in Eastern Championship Wrestling (which later became Extreme Championship Wrestling). Snuka was inducted into the WWF Hall of Fame in 1996. His children, Sim Snuka and Tamina Snuka, followed him into wrestling, and Tamina is a well-known WWE performer.

In his personal life, Snuka was married three times. In 1983, his girlfriend Nancy Argentino died after an incident in Allentown, Pennsylvania. Decades later, Snuka faced murder and manslaughter charges related to her death, but he was found not mentally fit to stand trial in 2016 and the charges were dismissed in 2017. He had stomach cancer and died on January 15, 2017, at age 73 in Florida.
