Gibson Style U

Gibson Style U is a harp guitar built by the Gibson Mandolin-Guitar Company from 1902 to 1925. It came in several configurations, most often with ten sub-bass strings. The top is carved spruce; catalogs list the back and sides as maple, but most examples were walnut. George Gruhn notes that Gibson hoped it would be the next evolution after the guitar. It was the most expensive Gibson guitar until 1934 and remained listed in catalogs from 1902 to 1937.
