Gibraltar House
Gibraltar House is the office that represents Gibraltar in the United Kingdom. It works as an informal consulate, provides tourist information about Gibraltar, and helps Gibraltarians who need medical treatment in Britain.
Location
- 150 Strand, London WC2R 1JA, on the Strand in London.
History
- Opened in the early 1970s in Northumberland Avenue as a small tourist information office; the first director was Helen Gordon.
- A larger Gibraltar Tourist Office followed in Trafalgar Square, then moved to 179 Strand, led by Jose Rosado and later Richard Garcia.
- Albert Poggio became Director in 1989 (briefly replaced by Peter Canessa from 2011 to 2012).
- In 2009 the office moved to its current location at 150 Strand.
Notes
- Poggio had long advocated creating a “social centre” in London since 1969 through the Gibraltar Group.
