Edward H. C. Long
Edward Henry Carroll Long (September 28, 1808 – October 16, 1865) was an American farmer, lawyer, and politician from Maryland. He was born in Princess Anne to Zadock and Leah Long. He attended local schools and graduated from Yale College in 1828. He studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1830, and practiced in Princess Anne while also farming. He married Amelia Roach and they had five children.
Long served in the Maryland House of Delegates in 1833–1835, 1839, 1844, and 1861, and in the Maryland Senate in 1860. He was elected as a Whig to the U.S. House of Representatives for Maryland's 6th district and served from March 4, 1845, to March 3, 1847. He did not seek renomination in 1846 and returned to his law practice and farming on his family farm, Catalpa. He also ran unsuccessfully for the U.S. Senate in 1860.
Long died in Princess Anne in 1865 and was buried at the Catalpa Family Farm in Princess Anne, Somerset County.
