German submarine U-2324
German submarine U-2324 was a Type XXIII U-boat built for Nazi Germany’s Kriegsmarine during World War II. It was constructed by Deutsche Werft in Hamburg (yard number 478), laid down on 21 April 1944, launched on 16 June 1944, and commissioned on 25 July 1944.
U-2324 displaced 234 tonnes on the surface and 258 tonnes submerged. It was 34.68 m long, 3.02 m wide, and had a draft of 3.66 m. The boat was powered by one diesel engine and two electric motors, giving a top speed of 9.7 knots surfaced and 12.5 knots submerged. Its range was 2,600 nautical miles at 8 knots on the surface and 194 nautical miles at 4 knots submerged. Test depth was 180 m. The crew numbered 14–18. Armament consisted of two 53.3 cm bow torpedo tubes with two torpedoes; there was no deck gun.
U-2324 served with several flotillas and carried out two patrols off the British coast, but did not score major successes. It did sink one small British coastal freighter, one of only five ships sunk by Type XXIII boats. Commanders were Hans-Heinrich Haß (July 1944–February 1945) and Konstantin von Rappard (March–May 1945).
The submarine surrendered on 9 May 1945. It sailed to Loch Ryan, Scotland for disposal in Operation Deadlight and was towed out to sea on 27 November 1945, where it was sunk as a target.
