Santi Cosma e Damiano, Genoa
Santi Cosma e Damiano is a Roman Catholic church in central Genoa, Italy. It stands on the site of an ancient oratory and is dedicated to the martyrs Saints Cosmas and Damian. The church is said to keep relics of Saint Damian, including his skull and tibia. Cosmas and Damian were the patron saints of barbers and doctors.
The first records mentioning the church date to 1049. Construction began in 1049 and the building was completed in the 17th century. The roof was damaged in 1684 by a naval bombardment and later damaged in World War II. Inside are notable paintings: Esther and Assuerus by Bernardo Castello, and Madonna and Child with St Cosma and St Damian by Gioacchino Assereto.
