German Township, Auglaize County, Ohio
German Township is one of 14 townships in Auglaize County, Ohio. In 2020, 3,751 people lived there. The township covers 18.5 square miles, all land, with a population density of about 203 people per square mile. It is in the southwest part of the county. The village of New Bremen lies in the eastern part of the township, and the unincorporated community of Lock Two is in the northeast.
A notable landmark is the Julius Boesel House north of New Bremen, listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
German Township formed when the area was part of Mercer County and originally included Jackson Township until that area split off in 1858.
The township is governed by a three-member board of trustees and an elected township fiscal officer. Trustees serve four-year terms; two are elected the year after a presidential election and one is elected the year before. The fiscal officer serves a four-year term beginning April 1 after the election. Vacancies are filled by the remaining trustees.
Most of the township lies in the New Bremen School District, with southwestern portions in the Marion Local School District.
For mailing, most of the township uses the New Bremen post office (ZIP 45869); the southeastern part uses the Minster post office (ZIP 45865).
