Georgia State Route 365
Georgia State Route 365 (SR 365), also known as the Sidney Lanier Parkway, is a 69.5-mile north Georgia highway. It runs from I-85 exit 113 on the southeastern edge of Suwanee and travels northeast to the South Carolina state line near Westminster. For most of its length it shares the road with I-985 and is also joined for a long stretch by US 23, creating a continuous freeway corridor from near Atlanta to South Carolina. The route passes through Gwinnett, Hall, Habersham, and Stephens counties, serving towns such as Buford, Flowery Branch, Oakwood, Gainesville, Cornelia, and Toccoa.
As it heads northeast, SR 365 encounters several major interchanges, including I-85 in Suwanee, US 23/SR 20 in Buford, and connections in Gainesville and Cornelia. In Gainesville it crosses the area where US 129, SR 11, and SR 13 intersect, and near Cornelia it links with US 441/SR 15. The highway continues with US 123 into Toccoa, then turns toward the SC line, ending southwest of Westminster.
Most of SR 365 is part of the National Highway System, highlighting its importance to the region’s economy and mobility. The route’s history began in 1920 as SR 13 from Buford to the SC line. It was paved by the early 1930s, with US 23 designated along much of its length by the 1930s. SR 365 was designated in 1969, and the freeway portion was completed in the 1970s–1980s, with the I-985 designation applied to the freeway segment by 1986. A short spur in Habersham County and a Gainesville business route existed briefly in the 1990s.
