Geological resistance

Content sourced from Wikipedia, licensed under CC BY-SA 3.0.

Geological resistance is how well rocks stand up to erosion and weathering. It mainly depends on hardness, chemical stability, and cohesion. A rock that is hard, not very reactive, and sticks together well resists erosion better. Over long time, differences in resistance within the same rock layer can form features like columns and arches (such as in Moab, Utah) and natural bridges like Rainbow Bridge in Utah.
