Geoffrey Kirkness is a British actor who works on stage, television and in films. He trained as an actor at the Central School of Speech and Drama in London after studying at Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge. He began his career in 1974 in a touring production of The Wisest Fool. In London's West End, he starred as Dick Dewy in Under the Greenwood Tree (1978–79) at the Vaudeville Theatre, directed by Patrick Garland. He then joined the Royal Shakespeare Company to appear as Dwyer in The Irish Play by Ron Hutchinson. On television, he was the presenter in Ali G Indahouse (2002) with Sacha Baron Cohen. He played Colin opposite Toyah Willcox in The Power of Three (2011). In Amundsen (2019), he played Charles Peto Bennett, a timber merchant whose wife had an affair with Roald Amundsen. He had a part in Listen (2020). He also played Vice Admiral Phillips in the BBC drama Dunkirk (2004) and General Alanbrooke in Into the Storm (2009) for HBO with Brendan Gleeson. In 2012 he appeared in the second series of The Hour as Lord Reeves. In The Crimson Field he played Captain Osberton. In BBC Radio 4’s The Song of the Cossacks, which aired on 25 March 2023, he played General Skiro.
