Ganapathy, Coimbatore
Ganapathy is a busy residential area in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, located in the city’s north‑east. It is the most densely populated part of the Coimbatore Corporation area, with Sathy Road as its main artery.
The locality lies close to several other parts of the city: about 3.5 km from Gandhipuram, 6.5 km from Townhall, 7 km from Ukkadam, 8 km from Singanallur, 8.5 km from Coimbatore International Airport, and 16 km from the Coimbatore Integrated Bus Terminus. It shares borders with Chinnavedampatti, Gandhipuram, Poosaripalayam, Rathinapuri, Maniyakarampalayam, Peelamedu, Saravanampatti, Vilankurichi and Avarampalayam. Ganapathy is connected by several roads, including Sathy Road, Avarampalayam Road, FCI Road, Athipalayam Road and Rathinapuri Road. The stretch from the Textool Railway flyover to Ganapathy Signal on Sathy Road is particularly congested. To reduce traffic, a ring road along the Sanganoor stream is proposed, linking Peelamedu–Kalapatti–Saravanampatti and Kurumbapalayam Road. The 12-km bypass would run from SITRA Junction in Peelamedu through Kalapatti and Saravanampatti to Mettuppalayam Road via Thudiyalur, allowing traffic to skirt Gandhipuram.
Coimbatore North Junction is the nearest railway station, and most town buses from Gandhipuram and Ukkadam to the northern areas pass through Ganapathy, making it easy to reach other parts of the city.
Ganapathy hosts a variety of parks and hospitals, and even a major housing project for Defence personnel by AFNHB. The 88-crore project will cover about 13 acres and provide 372 dwelling units with a swimming pool, community centre and jogging track; the foundation was laid by Rear Admiral R. Gaikwad, and Shapoorji Pallonji is the contractor.
The area is also home to many BPO offices, drawn by the availability of skilled workers. A Coimbatore Metro feasibility study is underway, with a proposed 44-km corridor that would run from Ganeshapuram to Karunya Nagar via Ganapathy.
A notable local landmark is Venugopalaswamy Temple, a Vaishnavite temple on the road toward Sanganoor.
