Frederick York
Frederick Arlington Viler York (1823–1903) was an English photographer. He worked in Somerset and, from 1855 to 1861, in Cape Town, then part of the Cape Colony (now in South Africa). In February 1861 he received South Africa’s first carte-de-visite camera as a gift from Prince Alfred. After returning to the United Kingdom in 1865, he started York & Son in Notting Hill, London, which made lantern slides.
