Baron Franz Philipp Fenner von Fenneberg (1759–1824) was an Austrian Army officer who reached the rank of Feldmarschall-Leutnant. He was born on 10 July 1759 on Fennberg mountain near Salurn in Tyrol, today part of South Tyrol in Italy. Some sources list 1762 as his birth year. The birthplace is on Fennberg (Favogna), which then belonged to Salurn and today lies in the municipality of Margreid. He joined the Austrian Imperial Army in 1777 and fought in many European conflicts. In 1809, as a major general, he helped defend Tyrol during the War of the Fifth Coalition. On 8 November 1814 he received the Knight’s Cross of the Military Order of Maria Theresa for his service in the liberation war against France. The Tyrolean Jäger Regiment, dissolved in 1815, was to be re-formed as the “Tirolean Fenner Jäger,” but in 1816 was named the Tyrolean Kaiserjäger. Fenner von Fenneberg died on 19 October 1824 in Jarosław (Jaroslau) while still serving as a divisional general in Galicia, eastern Europe. In 1913 his remains were moved from Jarosław to Tyrol.
