Cupramontana is a small comune in central Italy, in the Marche region, within the province of Ancona. It lies about 35 kilometers southwest of Ancona. The town covers 26.9 square kilometers and sits at an elevation of 505 meters. As of 30 June 2017, its population was 4,628, and residents are called Cuprensi. Cupramontana borders Apiro, Maiolati Spontini, Mergo, Monte Roberto, Rosora, San Paolo di Jesi, Serra San Quirico, and Staffolo. The name comes from Cupra, a fertility goddess worshiped by the ancient Piceni people; it had been called Massaccio before returning to Cupramontana.
