Franz Leopold Lafontaine
Franz Anton Leopold Lafontaine (Polish: Franciszek Lafontaine) was a German-born Polish military surgeon who lived from January 14, 1756, to December 12, 1812. He was born in Biberach an der Riss, the son of merchant Benno Leopold Ignatius Lafontaine and Maria Katharina Franziska Leonhardt. He is known for editing the first Polish medical journal and for his work on catarrh. He served as physician to the last king of Poland, Stanisław August Poniatowski. He married Maria Theresia Kornély, daughter of Joseph Kornély, a wealthy Polish-Hungarian merchant who converted to Catholicism; they had two daughters. Lafontaine died in Mogilev at the age of 56.
