Frances Perkins House
Frances Perkins House is a historic home at 2326 California Street NW in Washington, D.C. Built in 1914, it is one of two mirrored brick townhouses. Frances Perkins lived here from 1937 to 1940. She (1880–1965) was the first woman to serve in the U.S. Cabinet and was Secretary of Labor under President Franklin D. Roosevelt, where she helped push the New Deal and contributed to creating Social Security.
The house is designed in the Colonial Revival style by architect Alexander H. Sonneman. It features well-preserved woodwork, especially in the main parlor.
In 1991, the Frances Perkins House was listed on the National Register of Historic Places and designated a National Historic Landmark. It is in the Sheridan-Kalorama neighborhood, on the south side of California Street between 23rd and 24th Streets.
