Fishing year

Content sourced from Wikipedia, licensed under CC BY-SA 3.0.

A fishing year is a specific period used to manage and study fisheries. It does not always match the calendar year. In the United States, the Northeast Multispecies Fishery uses a fishing year from May 1 to April 30. This schedule is used by the New England Fishery Management Council to implement rules and manage Annual Catch Entitlements. Many fishery statistics are recorded using the fishing year as the standard time frame.
