First Presbyterian Church (Pittsburgh)
First Presbyterian Church of Pittsburgh is an active Presbyterian church in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The current building was completed in 1905 and designed by Theophilus Parsons Chandler in the neo-Gothic style. The church has 253 stained-glass windows, with 13 of them hand-painted by Tiffany Studios. The main worship hall features two 30-foot, two-ton oak doors that can be rolled open to the choir.
The exact founding date of the congregation isn’t known, but evidence goes back to 1783, when John Wilkins described efforts to establish a Presbyterian church in Pittsburgh. A bill to incorporate a Presbyterian congregation in Pittsburgh was passed on September 29, 1787.
