Fimbristylis acicularis is a sedge in the Cyperaceae family, native to northern and northeastern Australia. It spreads by rhizomes, grows in tufted clumps about 15–25 cm tall, and flowers from April to July with green blooms. The species was first described by Robert Brown in 1810, and it has several older scientific names, such as Scirpus acicularis and Fimbristylis australica. The name acicularis means needle-shaped. In Western Australia it lives along the Kimberley coast in swamps and near creeks, with its range extending to coastal areas of the Northern Territory’s top end and coastal Queensland.
