Gangadhar National Award For Poetry
Gangadhar National Award For Poetry is a prize given by Sambalpur University in Odisha, India, to recognize significant contributions in poetry. It is named after the poet Gangadhar Meher. The award began in 1991 (the process started in 1989) and is usually announced on Sambalpur University Foundation Day in January. So far, 33 poets have received the award in various Indian languages. The first winner was Ali Sardar Jafri in 1991, and the latest listed winner is Pratibha Satpathy in 2025. The prize includes Rs 1,00,000 in cash, an angavastra, a citation, a memento, and a copy of Gangadhar Meher: Selected Works (an English translation collection of Meher’s poetry).
