Ferencváros Stadion
The Ferencváros Stadion, also known as Groupama Aréna for sponsorship, is a multi‑purpose football stadium in Ferencváros, Budapest, Hungary. It is the home ground of Ferencvárosi TC and opened on 10 August 2014. The stadium seats about 23,000 people (22,122 for international matches).
It was built on the site of the former Flórián Albert Stadion, which was demolished in 2013. The Groupama naming rights deal gives the stadium its sponsor name, but corporate names aren’t used for FIFA or UEFA events.
Construction began in March 2013 and finished in 2014, costing around 13.5 billion Hungarian forints (about €40 million). The project employed about 2,000 workers. The designers were Ágnes Streit and Szabolcs Kormos, and Market Építő Zrt was the main contractor.
The stadium is categorized as a UEFA Category 4 venue, suitable for Hungary’s domestic league and cup matches, European qualifiers, and some international fixtures. It has hosted concerts and other events, and features a Fradi Museum and modern hospitality facilities, including executive suites and skyboxes.
The arena is in Budapest’s ninth district, near Népliget Metro station. The first official league match there was on 24 August 2014 (Ferencváros 3–1 Nyíregyháza). The opening match against Chelsea in 2014 ended 2–1 with Chelsea winning.
