Federal Agency for Medicines and Health Products
The Federal Agency for Medicines and Health Products (FAMHP) of Belgium is in charge of approving and registering new medicines and monitoring their safety (pharmacovigilance). It also oversees other health products. The agency was created on January 1, 2007, taking over from the Directorate-General for Medicines of the Federal Public Service Health.
FAMHP operates under the Federal Public Service Health and is based in Saint-Gilles, Brussels. In 2016, it had about 458 employees and an annual budget of around €70 million. The minister responsible is Frank Vandenbroucke, Minister of Public Health, and the agency’s administrator-general is Hugues Malonne.
