European Conference on Information Retrieval
The European Conference on Information Retrieval (ECIR) is the main European research conference for information retrieval. It is organized by the Information Retrieval Specialist Group of the British Computer Society (BCS-IRSG).
ECIR began in 1978 as the Annual Colloquium on Information Retrieval Research and was held in the UK every year until 1998, when Grenoble, France hosted it. Since then, the venue has alternated between the United Kingdom and continental Europe. To reflect its growth from a small gathering to a major event in in IR research, it was renamed the European Conference on Information Retrieval. Today ECIR is the major European forum for IR research and is generally held in the spring, near the Easter weekend.
