Alek Thomas is an American professional baseball outfielder for the Arizona Diamondbacks in Major League Baseball (MLB). He was born on April 28, 2000, in Tucson, Arizona, and he bats and throws left-handed.

Thomas went to Mount Carmel High School in Chicago, where he excelled, hitting .423 with 40 home runs and 158 RBIs. He originally planned to play both college baseball and football at Texas Christian University. The Arizona Diamondbacks drafted him in the second round of the 2018 MLB draft.

In his first pro season, he played for the Arizona League Diamondbacks and Missoula Osprey, hitting .333 with two home runs, 27 RBIs, and 12 stolen bases in 56 games. In 2019 he started with the Kane County Cougars, was part of the All-Star Futures Game in July, and finished the year with the Visalia Rawhide. Across 114 games that year, he hit .300/.379/.450 with 10 home runs, 55 RBIs, and 15 stolen bases. The 2020 minor league season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Thomas opened 2021 with the Amarillo Sod Poodles, was again selected for the All-Star Futures Game, and was promoted to the Reno Aces in August. In 106 games between those teams, he posted a line of .313/.394/.559 with 18 home runs, 59 RBIs, and 29 doubles. He started 2022 with Reno and then got called up to the majors on May 8, making his MLB debut with the Diamondbacks. He hit his first major league home run on May 11, 2022, off Sandy Alcántara of the Miami Marlins.

A highlight of his early big‑league career came in the 2023 National League Championship Series when he hit a pinch‑hit, game‑tying two‑run homer in the eighth inning of Game 4 to help Arizona win 6–5.

Thomas has represented both the United States and Mexico in international play. He played for the United States at the 2017 U-18 Baseball World Cup, where the US won gold and he was named to the All-World Team with a .361 batting average. He later played for Mexico in the 2023 World Baseball Classic.

His father, Allen Thomas, was the longtime strength and conditioning coach for the Chicago White Sox, and his mother has roots in Sonora, Mexico; he has family in Agua Prieta.
